I said this in my last post, but I’ll say it again. Since joining the feminist movement and getting involved in politics and social justice, it’s become really easy to view the world in a negative light and only see black and white. I don’t want to do that. I don’t want to be a person who chooses to only view things one way. That doesn’t mean that I plan to change my values and I certainly won’t tolerate discrimination towards marginalized groups, but it does mean I’ll approach people with a more open mind. I really want to know why some people see things so differently than I do.
So, from here on out, my goal is to approach things more positively. Maybe I’ll turn it into one of my New Years resolutions? I just know that I’m not happy when all I’m looking at is the negative of this world.
I’m also curious to know whether people think that staying positive despite the negativity in the world is an issue of white privilege? Because it’s easy for me, a white, hetero, cis, woman, to say “stay positive” when I’m not really being affected by the discrimination that certain marginalized groups experience. Let me know what you think. Sound off in the comments.
